About the Color Converter

The Color Converter shows one color in every format a designer or developer might need — HEX and RGB for screens and CSS, HSL and HSV for adjusting colors, and CMYK for print. Pick or type a color, copy the exact value you need, and browse a row of tints and shades generated from it.

How to use it

  1. Pick a color with the color picker, or type a HEX value.
  2. Read the color in HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and CMYK.
  3. Click any value to copy it, or pick a tint or shade swatch to explore variations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HSL and HSV?

Both describe a color by hue and saturation. HSL measures lightness from black to white through the pure color; HSV (also called HSB) measures brightness from black up to the pure color. Design tools use both, so the converter shows the two side by side.

Why do printed colors look different from my screen?

Screens mix light (RGB) while printers mix ink (CMYK), and their ranges of possible colors differ. Checking the CMYK values here gives you a better idea of how a color will print.

How do I use a color in CSS?

Copy the HEX value for the simplest option (for example color: #d9480f), or use the RGB or HSL values when you need transparency or easy lightness adjustments.
