—

About the BMI Calculator

The BMI Calculator turns your height and weight into a body mass index number and shows which standard category it falls into — underweight, healthy, overweight or obese — along with the healthy weight range for your height, so you can see how far you are from it in either direction.

How to use it

  1. Enter your height and weight.
  2. Read your BMI number and its category on the gauge.
  3. Check the healthy weight range shown for your height.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy BMI?

For most adults, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is classed as healthy. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.

How is BMI calculated?

BMI equals weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared (kg/m²). This calculator does the maths from whatever units you enter.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

BMI is a screening guide, not a diagnosis. It does not separate muscle from fat, so athletes can score high while being healthy, and it is less reliable for children, older adults and during pregnancy.
